Synthesis and characterization of carboxymethyl cellulose with high degree substitution from Vietnamese pineapple leaf waste

In this work, cellulose was successfully extracted from pineapple leaf waste by 0.75 M NaOH at 90oC and 5 HNO3 70oC for 1.5 h h, respectively. The obtained fibres, with average diameters of 150-300 nm, were converted to carboxymethyl (CMC) esterification. pure soaked in a solution mixture isopropanol 2 h. It then reacted chloroacetic acid (MCA) 60oC optimum conditions carboxymethylation found be g cellulose, MCA, 15 ml 16% w/v NaOH. CMC had high degree substitution (DS) 2.3. properties determined.
